On the Move! Winners and Losers of NFL Draft Day 1

By Adam Baird

Wow! Lets recap on what day 1 the NFL brought us! Three QBs in the top 5, two RBs in the top 15, and 4 consecutive WRs!

Now, let’s get into what you really want to know – How this impacts our fantasy drafts!

WINNERS

Lamar Jackson – Cha-Ching! The man finally got paid! After signing a massive contract with $185M guaranteed, The Ravens went out and picked their QB a shiny new toy by the name of Zay Flowers. If you read my last article, you know I’m a big fan of what Flowers brings – Explosion! Mark Andrews, OBJ, Bateman, and Flowers will give Lamar an arsenal stocked with dangerous weapons this year. I expect another MVP-like season.

Robert Woods – After selecting their future QB, CJ Stroud, The Texans got aggressive and traded up from pick 12 to nab Alabama Edge Will Anderson. Many mock drafters, myself included, pegged Houston to address their WR room with pick 12. For now, Woods only has Nico Collins as a threat to take targets away.

Geno Smith – DK, Lockett, and JSN – Oh my. Seattle gave Geno another dynamic WR by adding Jaxson Smith-Ngijba at pick 20. JSN will fit in perfectly with DK and Lockett, Giving Geno 3 good to great options at WR.

LOSERS

DeAndre Swift, David Montgomery – Whoa! The Lions shocked us all with their selection of Gibbs at 12. Montgomery is fresh off signing a 3 yr 18 million dollar deal with Detroit so he’s not going anywhere, but this marks the end for Swift in Detroit. I expect Swift to be moved by the end of the weekend for a day 3 pick.

Dawson Knox – Knox re-draft value won’t take as hard of a hit as his dynasty value did. The Bills traded up to get Utah’s Dalton Kincaid. A premier pass-catching Tight End in Kincaid will steal targets from Knox this season and will be hustling to fully replace him as Buffalos TE1 by next season.

Tyler Allgeier – Allgeier was likely to be a favorite RB2 or 3 target for fantasy managers this year after a very promising rookie year. The Falcons squashed those plans on draft night by selecting Bijan Robinson with the 8th pick in the draft. Bijan is a 3 down RB that only improves as his carries increase. This selection moves Allgeier down to nothing more than a handcuff.
